Winnie Harlow: Beauty Is In Everything... Try Loving Yourself!

Am I the only person on the planet that has just heard of Winne Harlow?! No seriously, am I? I actually can't remember right now where I first saw her photograph the other day, but I was momentarily awestruck, for obvious reasons. I do not want to over enthuse here... but if I were to say that looking at Winnie is like appreciating a stunning piece of art... would anyone disagree?

For those of you who have not heard of Winne Harlow (born Chantelle Brown-Young), she is a Canadian model who has vitiligo, the disease made well known by Michael Jackson. Winnie was diagnosed with the disease when she was just four years old and she is now a vitiligo 'spokesmodel'.

Understandably, growing up was extremely difficult for Winnie as she was frequently ridiculed and bullied due to her appearance. However, after dropping out of high school, she decided to see her disease in a positive way and accept it.  Thank God for that, because this 19 year old beauty is now being celebrated for her distinct look. Since appearing on America's Next Top Model last year, Winnie's modelling career has gone from strength to strength. She has walked for Ashish's catwalk show in London and starred in a ShowSTUDIO campaign. Recently she starred in Diesel's spring campaign.

Winnie has said that as a result of the intense bullying, she was frequently plagued with suicidal thoughts. However, she says that she reached a point where she decided to embrace her originality and use it in her favour. 'I loved myself. And with that, opportunities started to fall into my lap. And I thank God for all of them. Try loving yourself'

In a recent TED X (Teens) presentation, Winnie talked about how she believes that there is beauty in everything. She told the audience that one does not need to fit into one side or the other of a spectrum or fit into someone else's mould, instead everyone should just be their own person and know for one's self what beauty is rather than looking to a magazine. She advises that there is no one form of beauty and so instead of looking to others to help us define what beauty is, instead we should look within... look into our hearts and create our own moulds!

I could not end this post without leaving you some amazing pictures of Winnie... enjoy!

Winnie, not only are you my BC #Woman Crush, you are truly an inspirational woman! Thank you!

Stay confident and beautiful
