How difficult is it to lose weight and get fit?

How difficult is it to lose weight and get fit? To be very honest with you, this is a question that I have only recently, in the last few years, ever had to ponder over. You see, growing up, and as a young woman, I was one of those 'lucky' girls that never really had to worry about her weight. I was a skinny rag doll of a child who, I remember, always had to use safety pins to secure my school skirt in place so that it wouldn't literally fall off my body.

Afro Hair & Beauty Show: How was it for you?

So how was it for you? I got to the show at about 2pm on Monday, and people were still flooding through the doors eager to see what was going on inside. We (my mum, my two sons and I) got to the ticket counter and duly purchased our tickets from the lovely ladies waiting to take our money, and off we went to join the sea of happy black folk inside the main hall.

The Afro Hair and Beauty Show 2015

This would not be an afro hair and beauty blog without mentioning the Afro Hair & Beauty Show that takes place tomorrow (24th May) and bank holiday Monday (25th May). Are you going? Have you bought a ticket yet? Have you been before? Well, I am quite excited to be attending on the Monday. I was there last year very briefly and had a good time. I am hoping to have an even better time this year.

‘The Science of Black Hair' by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy

As you may have noticed, I like wigs! However, my love for wigs really came into it's own after the birth of my first son. As many of you may have already experienced (and for the those of you who haven't had children yet.... get ready... lol!) after the initial surge in pregnancy hormones, my hair during and just after pregnancy was beautiful. My natural hair was full, thick, soft, bouncy.... lush! However, after just a few weeks, the dreaded post-partum hair loss started!

#Man Crush - Bretiney Rodrigues Talks Black Beauty

Hello ladies! It's that time again and as you can see, I have not disappointed you! I was fortunate enough to speak to the oh-so-gracious and incredibly beautiful Bretiney Rodrigues, who was kind enough to take some time out of his extremely busy schedule in order to answer a few questions on black beauty. Bretiney originates from Cape Verde, but is currently based in Portugal. Let's talk to Bretiney...

Nubian Skin - A different kind of nude

Okay so a few days ago I was having a meeting of minds about relevant topics for my upcoming posts on BlackCleopatra. During that conversation, the name 'Nubian Skin' was mentioned! Hold on one little second. Nubian what? What is that? So apparently there is a company based in the UK that manufactures lingerie and hosiery for darker skinned women!  Am I the only person on the planet that didn't know this?!

Are you SURE you aren't mixed race? You're too pretty to be African!!!!

Today I would like to introduce you to the gloriously divine Miss Epi Ferreira! Stunning right? Now, I know there is no need to ask you to look at her properly... because I am pretty sure that you are doing that right now. However, as you do that, tell me where you would say that she 'comes' from? Hmmm, well she is very fair... and with a name like Epi Ferreira...

Okay let's talk to Epi and let her tell you herself!

I can't remember when exactly, what I was doing, or how I stumbled upon the picture above, but what I do remember is thinking 'Wow! What a beautiful woman!' Even looking at the picture now results in #seriousgirlcrush #soenvious #howdareanybodysayblackwomenaren'tbeautiful #whydon'tIlooklikethisdammit?! Lol! Fast forward to recent times and choosing the very first beautiful black woman to feature as 'My BlackCleopatra', the first woman that came to mind was... Philomena Kwao.

Natural for me... but still love my wigs and weaves!

Today I woke up to a horrible post on Facebook that just made my heart sink!

As you can imagine I took to Facebook immediately to defend my beautiful dark skinned sister.

Wigs: Beautiful ‘Briona’ by Model Model

Colour: F237
Hello beautiful people. Today I am introducing you to beautiful Briona by Model Model. Now I know that many of you will be thinking... 'hold on a sec... that's Gala!' You can be forgiven because she does look a lot like Gala. However... she isn't! She is Briona. Lol! If you look carefully, you will notice that Briona, unlike Gala is a lace front unit. To me this is the main difference in terms of appearance. However, this unit is also a curlier unit at the ends. So for all of you who like your lace fronts, but also like the look of Gala, perhaps Briona is for you.  But wait...

Wigs: Heavenly ‘Honey Meadow’ by Model Model

Hi guys.... oooooo so excited! I just love the unit I am posting about tonight! She is my summer unit guys and her name is... Honey Meadow! Nice name don't you think? Makes me think of a pretty field full of lillies... Anyhoo... My pet name for her is 'Heavenly Honey' as you might have noticed in the 'My Favourite Units' slider.

So... Honey! She is by Model Model and is a lace front wig. She is chin length with a side part (on the right) as you can see and I am wearing her in OMBG... such a beautiful colour. Darker on top and bright burgundy at the bottom. The first time I wore her out... it was crazy. Compliments galore. I got my first customer who wanted the exact same unit!
